TomTom XXL 540S 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator - Review

You can take the TomTom XXL 540 • S portable navigator with you just about anywhere in North America — it comes with detailed maps of all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and most of Mexico, a feature which sets it apart from the competition. The user-friendly 5" widescreen touch display makes it easy to see where you're going and to search for stopping points. You get 7 million preloaded points of interest, and you can upload your own favorite destinations to make trip planning easier.

Save time with fewer missed turns
You'll hear actual street names at turns, as text-to-speech voice prompts give you clear instructions like "turn left on River Road" instead of "take the next left." Advanced lane guidance places you in the proper lane for upcoming turns and circles, while TomTom's IQ Routes™ technology uses actual average travel speeds rather than posted speed limits to find the quickest route to your destination...I highly recommend you buy the Tom Tom XXL 540S through Amazon here. You won’t find them cheaper anywhere else.

Maintain your maps
Use TomTom's MapShare software to fix map inaccuracies on the spot, instead of waiting for the next update. You can edit speed limits, points of interest, street names and directions, and more right on your XXL 540 • S. You can also report an error directly to TomTom online and choose to share the fix with other TomTom users. TomTom verifies all changes so you can import edits made by others to your navigator.

Additional travel-friendly features

Plan trips with TomTom's free HOME software suite, which also allows you to update your navigator and contact other TomTom users. TomTom's EasyPort™ mount folds away for convenient storage so it's easy to transport between vehicles. The "Help Me!" feature provides one-touch information for nearby emergency services, including phone numbers for rapid response. Pick up an optional traffic-information receiver for the XXL 540 • S to keep track of congestion along your route, so you can find the best way around it.

I have owned several GPS units.. I upgraded to this model from the TomTom 140S. This model has twice the screen size. The screen is brighter, and the sound is louder and fuller. I cannot recommend it highly enough.. Click here to read more
